Heel Pain
Hopefully one of the runners on here can help me.

I did a half marathon back in March and my foot really hurt afterwards and still my heel is in agony every time I run or even go for a long walk.

I feel like an injured James Collins in that I am walking gingerly. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Re: Heel Pain
It is planter fascitis as already stated below. I resumed running after 6 mths absence in Jan and had been running 3 times per week for about 2 months when this pain first appeared.

I immediately ceased running and saw a chiropodist who confirmed it was due to the arches of my feet starting to give way from the extra running. I had custom made insoles made(half length) which were quite expensive. However after a week once my feet had adjusted I was able to resume running and walking long distances without any pain in the feet whatsoever. The insoles can be transferred between all my shoes including rthe running shoes although the latter should not already have support built in for the insoles to fit OK.

Hope this helps.

Re: Heel Pain
Well I had cortisone yeah it hurt a bit but it certainly cleared it up after months of real agony.

Re: Heel Pain
I posted a thread about this awhile ago.

It's plantar fasciitis and there is no cure, it might last 3 months or it might last a year.
You could have a cortisone but I'm told that is more painful than the actual injury, all you can do is run your foot over a cold bottle and it will relieve it for a bit.

I bowled 17 overs yesterday and whilst bowling I didn't feel it but during tea once it cooled down it was extremely painful and this morning it's very sore but as I type I am working my foot over a cold bottle.

It's a very common injury and I feel your pain!

Re: Heel Pain
Sounds like Plantar fasciitis, and its a cunt to get rid of, good luck, got a bout myself atm as i do a lot of running and gym work.

Try massaging with a can of beer thats been in the freezer for an hour, using a golf ball to massage the bottom of the foot helps as well, helps sooth it and will help the healing process, which is a long one unfortunately, 6-8 weeks if you dont run or doing anything too physical.

If it doesnt improve then there is the steroid injections, but thats not recommended unless really necessary.

Re: Heel Pain
Sounds like Plantar fasciitis as said below also known as Policeman's heel.
I had it really bad for ages and couldn't play Golf until my GP injected the area with cortisone which cleared it up.

Re: Heel Pain
They cost about £2 in Shoezone though I am told by an inside source that they may be discontinuing them soon. They're made of a clear gel. No guarentee it will work but it's worth a try as they're so cheap.

Re: Heel Pain
I am in what one might politely call my middle years. A couple of years back I trained for a 10,000 metres ( for charity of course) and shortly after this I suffered from heel pain which did not go away. The doctor explained it to me but said there was no surgical treatment. I thought it was going to see off my footballing days. A friend suggested I try placing cushioned inserts (gells) in all my shoes which I did and after a while it eased off. I now use the inserts all the time and I continue to grace the 6 a side pitch with my skills.

And as an added bonus, I now appear a quarter of an inch taller, which is bound to impress the ladies.

Re: Heel Pain
If you can ice it every couple of hours that may help.and off course rest it as much as you can. Have a look at advice videos on youtube some are good some not so good, My back has been fucked for years and I got some stretches of off youtube Chiropractor that really helped. There is also something called Dry Needling which is like acupuncture but directly in the affected area. I had it done about 3 months after tearing my claf and after a massive calf muscle spasm it was fine and has been since. If all fails doctor

Re: Heel Pain
Nicey, I got serious gyp off my heel, was limping around for weeks. I had an X-ray and it turns out I've got an Achilles bone spur that's giving me tendonitis if over used.

Proper lump sticking out, it is. What a cunt.
